The arrival of the New Year is much like starting a new Pua Kumbu—we begin with a blank frame, multiple colours of threads, a vision in our hearts, and the strength of our hands.  As we stand at the threshold of 2026, I invite all of us to look with gratitude our journey of a thousand steps filled with hope making a difference.

 

The Strength of the Loom

The Sarakup Indu Dayak Sarawak (SIDS) has always been the "loom" that holds and binds our community, especially our Dayak women, together.  In 2026, our focus is on Resilience and Renewal.  We live in a time of rapid change, but the values that define a Dayak woman—grace under pressure, deep-rooted wisdom, and an unbreakable spirit—are more relevant today than ever before.

 

Our 2026 Aspirations

This year, we are committed to being a bridge between our glorious past and a tech-empowered future.  We will strive to:

• Elevate Our Heritage: Turning our traditional arts into sustainable livelihoods.

• Nurture the Next Generation: Ensuring the next generation carry the torch of our culture with pride and modern skills.

• Strengthen Our Bonds: Because the voice of one woman is a whisper, but the voice of SIDS is a roar.

 

A Message of Inspiration

To every mother, daughter, professional, and artisan: Your contribution is the thread that makes our tapestry beautiful.  Be courageous pursuing your dreams this year; whether you are seeking higher education, starting a business, or leading a community project, know that your SIDS sisters stand firmly with you.

 

Let us walk into 2026 with our heads held high, honouring the women who came before us by becoming the best versions of ourselves.

 

May your 2026 be blessed with "Gayu Guru, Gerai Nyamai" — Longevity, Health, and Prosperity.
